The Rangers' own-goal caused by Alexis Lafrenière and Igor Shesterkin is awfully similar to another moment in the team's history.

When Alexis Lafrenière accidentally shot the puck into his own net last night

in the Rangers playoff with Florida it was – shall we say – an embarrassing moment.

It really wasn’t Lafrenière's fault as goalie Igor Shesterkin was the one who lost the puck along the boards to Florida's Carter Verhaeghe. The Panther's pass to teammate Matthew Tkachuk hit Al's stick and slipped through Igor's five-hole.

The mishap reminded me of another such Ranger goalie faux pas. This happened in the 1942-43 season when rookie New York netminder Steve Buzinski was showing a teammate how easy it was to play goal.

"It's as easy as pickin' cherries off a tree," said Buzinski after making a glove save. He then tossed the puck harmlessly into the corner.

A few minutes later, Buzinski made another save and tossed the puck into the corner again.

Only this time he tossed the rubber into his own net!
