From the day Phil Watson coached goalie Lorne "Gump" Worsley with the Rangers farm team, the New York Rovers, up to their last year together as Rangers, the Watson-Worsley feud never ended.
Since The Gumper had a swift wit, he usually torpedoed Watson's putdowns with a squelch that Phiery Phil never could rebut.
One of the classics involved a game which the Blueshirts lost despite future Hall of Famer Worsley starring in goal.
Furious over the loss, Watson told the assembled media, "We'll never be able to win a Cup as long as we have a beer-barrel-belly-goalie between the pipes."
One minute after Phil finished his filibuster, the reporters confronted Gump with Watson's declaration. Worsley mulled it over for one-and-a-half second.
"It just shows you what a jerk we have for a coach," The Gump snapped, "I ONLY DRINK JOHNNY WALKER RED!"
