At 19:30 of the second period, with the New York Rangers up 2-0, rookie forward Matt Rempe received a five-minute major and a match penalty for elbowing New Jersey Devils defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler:
This hit -- unintentional but reckless -- earned him an over-the-phone hearing with George Parros and the NHL's Department of Player Safety.
The ruling was a four-game suspension, as he'll miss the Rangers games against the Carolina Hurricanes, Tampa Bay Lightning, Pittsburgh Penguins, and New York Islanders.
He is eligible to return against the Winnipeg Jets on March 19.
"He's got to be mindful, as well. He was getting to a point where he was going to go crashing into the boards, and he put his arms up," Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette said. "He can learn from it.
"There’s been a lot around him & his entry into the league... He's a young kid, not only learning from what happened (Monday) but also learning about the game... It's been a lot & that's why we continue to talk to him. But I think he's done a pretty good job" (H/t Vince Z. Mercogliano)
In 10 career games, the 21-year-old has a goal and 54 penalty minutes, including six fights, with one match penalty and one game misconduct.
