You learn something new every day. At least I do and especially since I once thought I knew everything about Madison Square Garden. What I did know was that the first MSG – in the 19th century – started out as a railway station and the second one, across from Madison Square Park, was a gaudy structure with a nightclub on the roof. The third Garden – the one in which I grew – opened in 1925 on Eighth Avenue between 49th and 50th Streets. It remained in business until 1968 when the present MSG made its debut. Stan Fischler US Hall Of Fame MSG But here's what I did not know – and thanks to author-historian George Grimm for telling me – is this: The so-called "New Garden," actually is older than the "Old Garden." MSG III – the so-called "Old" one – lived 43 years and then was razed. The new – now old – one is 56 years old and still counting.
