This report comes out after weeks of speculation on whether or not the Rangers would trade or even buyout Trouba. While Trouba will likely be in New York for the 2024-25 campaign, Staple wrote that a split between the captain and the Rangers organization is "nearly certain" as the team faces major cap related concerns. On top of the players that are already under contract, the Rangers still need to sign Igor Shesterkin, Alexis Lafrenière and K’Andre Miller to contract extensions over the next year, so they will have to make some difficult financial decisions.
