After acquiring Jamie Drysdale, the Flyers are in a position to trade at least one of their defensemen.
The Philadelphia Flyers made a blockbuster deal last night, trading top prospect Cutter Gauthier to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Jamie Drysdale and a 2025 second-round pick. Gauthier didn't want to be a Flyer, so GM Danny Briere moved quickly and got a nice return for him.
However, with the Flyers adding Drysdale, their blue line now is looking a bit crowded. Because of this and the trade deadline rapidly approaching, let's go over two Flyers defensemen who could be moved in the upcoming weeks.
Sean Walker
Sean Walker has been a big name in the rumor mill this season, and it is understandable. He's had a strong season for the Flyers and is a pending unrestricted free agent (UFA). Because of this, the Flyers could get a good return for him.
Sean WalkerWalker, 29, has appeared in 40 games this season, where he has four goals, 13 points, and a plus-5 rating. He's worked nicely in their top four, and teams are sure to call the Flyers about him because of it.
If the Flyers do not sign Walker to an extension by March 8, it would be surprising if he is not traded. There's too much value there for a rebuilding team like the Flyers not to take advantage of.
Nick Seeler
Another Flyer defenseman who could be traded over these next few weeks is Nick Seeler. Like Walker, he is on an expiring contract and should be an appealing rental for playoff teams wanting to improve their defensive depth.
Nick Seeler Seeler, 30, is also having a strong 2023-24 season. In 40 games played, he has seven assists and a plus-13 rating. While he has not been dominant offensively, his defensive game has been excellent, which is why he plays second-pairing minutes.
Seeler has the potential to get the Flyers a solid return. This is because he is not only having a good season but also has an easily affordable $775,000 cap hit.
