Get some caffeine ready, because the Philadelphia Flyers have a long night ahead of them. As part of ESPN's Frozen Frenzy, the Flyers are playing the latest game of the evening, and it comes against the Vegas Golden Knights — the defending Stanley Cup champs — in Sin City.
The Flyers are coming off a gutsy performance against the Dallas Stars that resulted in a 5-4 overtime loss after an admirable comeback in the third period. The Golden Knights, meanwhile, are unbeaten to start the season. They're the first team in NHL history to start a campaign 6-0-0 the season after winning the Stanley Cup. Pretty impressive.
Beating the Golden Knights will be no easy task, but this Flyers team appears capable of at least making things interesting, especially after three strong performances in a row.
Here's everything to know going into the late night tilt.
When: 11 p.m. ET
Where: T-Mobile Arena
Radio: 97.5 The Fanatic
TV: ESPN, ESPN+
1. Forward Morgan Frost may be a healthy scratch again Tuesday night. If so, that will make four straight games that Frost has watched from the press box. The Flyers have been happy with what they've seen from youngsters Bobby Brink and Tyson Foerster, and so far, neither of them have given the club any reason to remove them from the lineup in favor of Frost.
2. With Rasmus Ristolainen still out of the lineup, young defenseman Emil Andrae will earn more time on the third pairing. Andrae remains one of the Flyers' top young blueliners, but it's clear he isn't completely ready for a full-time NHL role. His minutes have decreased in each of his first three NHL games, so don't be surprised if the Flyers continue to shelter him against a very strong Golden Knights team.
3. The Flyers' penalty kill has been outstanding to start the year. After scoring 11 shorthanded goals last campaign, the PK has already netted four shorties just five games into the season. With just three power-play goals allowed thus far, the penalty kill already appears to be one of the Flyers' strengths. That will need to continue if they want any chance of beating Vegas.
