Canada opened its Olympic tournament with a decisive 5–0 win over Czechia in group-stage play on Thursday.

From a Philadelphia Flyers perspective, the game offered limited on-ice involvement but remains part of a busy international stretch for several members of the organization.

Dan Vladar served as Czechia’s backup goaltender and did not enter the game. Canada controlled play for much of the contest, building its lead steadily and limiting Czechia’s ability to generate sustained offensive pressure. With the scoreline widening, there was no change in goal.

Travis Sanheim did not dress for Canada in the opener. With a deep defensive group, lineup decisions are likely to vary based on matchups and performance as the tournament progresses.

Rick Tocchet, serving as an assistant coach for Canada, was part of a staff that oversaw a composed, dominant performance.

The result moves Canada forward with momentum in group play, while Czechia will look to regroup in its upcoming games.

Friday, Feb. 13 will be a perfect opportunity for Flyers fans to potentially see all three of their Olympians play, with Rasmus Ristolainen and Finland taking on Sweden at 6:10 a.m. EST (available to watch on USA and TSN), Czechia playing France at 10:40 a.m. EST (available to watch on SN, CBC, and Peacock), and Canada facing off against Switzerland at 3:10 p.m. EST (available to watch on Peacock and CBC).
