Philadelphia Flyers goalie prospect Egor Zavragin has been loaned to HC Sochi from SKA St. Petersburg.
Fellow Russian Flyera prospect Matvei Michkov followed a similar path, spending two seasons at Sochi while on loan from St. Petersburg.
Zavragin joined the KHL from Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk, where he started in the MHL (Russia's junior hockey league), but performed so well that he was quickly called up to Yugra's parent club in the VHL, the top level of minor league hockey in Russia.
He adjusted well to the promotion, going 13-1 in 14 starts (including three shutouts) with a 1.60 GAA and a .943 save percentage. He performed equally impressively in the VHL playoffs, recording a 2-1 record with a 1.67 GAA and a .938 save percentage.
The goaltender, who turns 19 in August, was drafted by the Flyers 87th overall in 2023. He has not yet signed an entry-level contract with the organization.
“He’s exceeded our expectations," Assistant GM Brent Flahr told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "I know he’s put himself kind of on the scene there in Russia... He’s big. He’s athletic, plays a very mature game for a young guy as far as his positional play and whatnot.”
