Philadelphia Flyers goaltending prospect Alexei Kolosov will be coming over to the U.S. to participate in the team's training camp after Kolosov was reportedly pushing for a move back to the KHL.
Kolosov came to the Flyers in April, around the same time as fellow goalie Ivan Fedotov, but was assigned to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms—a move that he allegedly was not pleased with.
Flyers GM Danny Briere and Phantoms head coach Ian Laperriere both said that Kolosov's Phantoms teammates "went out of their way" to make the goalie feel included, understanding that getting used to the new country and having to learn English was far from an easy adjustment. However, Kolosov is said to have given his teammates the cold shoulder when they invite him to group outings.
Once the 2023-24 season ended, Kolosov returned to his native Belarus, where rumors started to come out that he was desperately trying to wriggle out of his contract with the Flyers in order to play in the KHL.
Kolosov did not report to the Flyers' development or rookie camps, and initially did not report to training camp, but his agent, Dan Milstein, has confirmed that he will be joining the Flyers for the rest of their preseason schedule.
First reported by Kevin Kurz of The Athletic, an agreement was reached between the two camps that would allow Kolosov to play in the Flyers' remaining exhibition games, along with returning to the AHL for some more minutes.
According to an additional report from Elliotte Friedman, the agreement also has terms that would allow Kolosov to return to the KHL should things with the Flyers not work out.
The Flyers had current goalie tandem Sam Ersson and Ivan Fedotov present at training camp, along with 19-year-old prospect Carson Bjarnason and try-out signing Eetu Makineimi (who they ended up signing to a one-year, two-way deal), along with Phantoms goalie Cal Petersen.
The Flyers did not immediately comment on this development.
