Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Travis Sanheim played a key supporting role in helping Canada secure its place in the men's ice hockey gold medal game at the 2026 Winter Olympics, recording an assist in Canada’s 3–2 semifinal victory over Finland on Friday.
Sanheim’s contribution came on Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Shea Theodore’s game-tying goal, a turning point that shifted the momentum in Canada’s favor after Finland controlled large portions early in the game, at one point holding a 2-0 lead.

Sanheim’s assist points towards the steady, detail-oriented role he has played throughout the tournament. Though not always in the spotlight, his defensive reliability and ability to move the puck efficiently have made him a trusted option within Canada’s lineup in high-leverage situations.
On the opposite side, Rasmus Ristolainen logged significant minutes for Finland, displaying his signature physical defensive style while also contributing a couple of assists of his own throughout the tournament. Despite the loss, Finland remains in contention for a medal and will compete in the bronze medal game on Feb. 21.
Canada will now face the winner of the United States vs. Slovakia semifinal, scheduled for later today at 3:10 p.m. EST.
