Another day, another round of cuts for the Philadelphia Flyers.
Saturday afternoon, the Flyers announced the release of four players from the training camp roster. Forward Elliot Desnoyers and defenseman Helge Grans have been loaned to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms while forwards Jordy Bellerive and Jacob Gaucher were released from their professional tryouts.
Forty players remain on the Flyers' roster.
Desnoyers is the most notable name headed back to Lehigh Valley. The 21-year-old, selected in the fifth round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, logged a team-leading 23 goals and 44 points in 65 games for the Phantoms last season. He also appeared in four games with the Flyers, though he failed to log a point in those outings.
Desnoyers suited up for two of the Flyers' first three games of the preseason. Against the Bruins Friday night, he led all Flyers forwards with 3:01 of shorthanded ice time.
While Desnoyers won't start the season in the NHL, it will not be a surprise if he earns an opportunity with the Flyers at some point during the regular season — especially if the team suffers a rash of injuries.
The Flyers will be back in action Saturday night against the New Jersey Devils for their first home game of the preseason. The Flyers and Devils faced off for the preseason opener on Monday with the Devils earning a dominant 6-0 victory in Newark.
