The Flyers' veteran forward won some hardware at his first-ever appearance at the Worlds.

Flyers forward Scott Laughton is officially a gold medalist.

Canada defeated Germany in the gold medal game of the 2023 IIHF World Championship by a score of 5-2 Sunday afternoon. Laughton, a native of Oakville, Ontario, potted the empty-netter to give Canada a comfortable three-goal cushion in the game's final minutes.

This was Laughton's first-ever appearance at the World Championships, turning out to be a key cog for the Canadians. As one of Canada's alternate captains, the soon-to-be 29-year-old (his birthday is on Tuesday) logged three goals and five assists for eight total points in 10 games at the tournament.

Laughton wasn't the only player in the Flyers' system to show out at the Worlds. Cutter Gauthier, the Flyers' first-round pick from last year's draft, put together a strong showing at the tournament as well.

Gauthier, 19, was a dynamic scorer for the United States. He led the U.S. with seven goals in the tournament and logged a hat trick in the Americans' preliminary tilt against against France.

Unfortunately, the U.S. was unable to earn any hardware from the Worlds after losing in overtime to Latvia in the bronze medal game. The Americans went undefeated in their first eight games of the tournament, only to lose both of their final two contests.
