After spending all of last season playing in the minors, veteran forward Nate Thompson is calling it a career.
Thompson officially announced his retirement on the latest episode of the Empty Netters Podcast (which you can watch in full here).
Selected in the sixth round (No. 183 overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Thompson went on to put together a solid career. He played for nine teams over 15 NHL seasons, including, of course, the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Flyers acquired Thompson from the Montreal Canadiens at the 2020 trade deadline in exchange for a fifth-round pick, then reacquired him as a free agent ahead of the 2021-22 season.
Thompson appeared in 40 games as a member of the Flyers over two seasons, logging a total of one goal, four points, and 40 penalty minutes. He also netted a goal in 16 postseason games with the Flyers.
Overall, the 38-year-old posted a total of 65 goals, 164 points, and 401 penalty minutes in 844 career NHL games.
Not too bad for a guy drafted in the sixth round.
