The former Flyers bench boss is coming off an excellent season with the NHL's newest franchise.

Former Philadelphia Flyers head coach Dave Hakstol has earned himself a longer stay with the Seattle Kraken.

The Kraken extended Hakstol's contract through the 2025-26 season, the club announced Wednesday afternoon.

Hakstol, the first (and only) head coach in Kraken history, led the NHL's newest club to the playoffs for the first time in its existence last season. After finishing the 2021-22 campaign as one of the worst clubs in the NHL, the Kraken ended the 2022-23 regular season with a 46-28-8 record and went on to defeat the Colorado Avalanche — the defending Stanley Cup champions — in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs to earn the first postseason series victory in franchise history.

As a result, Hakstol was named a finalist for the Jack Adams Award as the NHL's best coach at the end of the season. Boston Bruins bench boss Jim Montgomery ultimately ended up winning the award.

Hakstol spent four seasons coaching the Flyers. Hired in 2015, he led the Flyers to a pair of postseason appearances and posted a 134-101-42 record before being fired midway through the 2018-19 season.

Overall, Hakstol has owns a 207-178-56 record as an NHL head coach.
