A source confirmed to NBC Sports Philadelphia that Matvei Michkov was a passenger in a car accident and was not injured. https://t.co/PgeZ35K5UQ
The car involved in the accident was reportedly a rental registered under Michkov’s name.
"Michkov was in the passenger seat, and the driver was sober. Matvei was not tested for alcohol, and did not drink anything either," said lawyer Shuk al-Kathiri, who has reportedly been obtained to represent Michkov. "From the point of view of UAE laws, there are no questions for him."
al-Kithiri also claimed that the owners of the rental car service "illegally [held] the passports of two citizens of the Russian Federation" (presumably Michkov and the driver of the car, said to be a friend), along with "extort[ing] about 100 thousand dollars from Matvei so that information about him would not be distributed to the media."
News of the accident circulated quickly online, prompting concern among fans, though early confirmations of his well-being have helped ease the worry.
Neither the Flyers nor anyone in Michkov's camp have made an official statement on the situation as of publication.
