This is your scheduled reminder that Matvei Michkov is still a big part of the future of the Philadelphia Flyers, and he is still capable of doing crazy things on the ice at a moment's notice.

As his offseason and subsequent training begins to wind down, Michkov, 21, participated in the Match of the Year across the pond back home in Russia, an annual charity match hosted by fellow NHLers and countrymen Artemi Panarin and Mikhail Sergachev.

Playing for Panarin's team, Michkov was able to drop a hat trick, including the 'Michigan' lacrosse goal, in the 9-9 tie, though Sergachev's team would pull out a 10-9 win at SKA Arena in St. Petersburg after a lengthy shootout between the two star-studded sides.

For his first goal, the young Flyers star cashed in from the left side of the low slot, tapping in a well-placed backhand pass from teammate Maxim Shalunov, giving Panarin's side a 1-0 lead early.

Michkov would again team up with Shalunov to manufacture his second goal, carrying the puck up the ice on the rush, finding Shalunov to his left, then picking the puck back up on a drop pass back from his teammate.

Carrying the puck from left to right, Michkov cut to the center of the ice, firing a shot from an off angle and scoring into the bottom right corner past Maxim Dorozhko to break a 4-4 tie, again putting Panarin's team ahead by a goal.

Last but certainly not least of the hat trick of goals was the Michigan.

The Flyers winger would again beat Dorozhko, this time catching the opposing goalkeeper off balance from behind the net and easily depositing into a gaping space between Dorozhko and the post.

Perhaps Michkov and the rest of Panarin's team had a little too much fun in the non-competitive setting, as the 8-4 lead they took on Michkov's Michigan quickly evaporated, and then turned into a 10-9 shootout loss. But in a charity match, entertainment should be No. 1, anyway.

"It just happened that way. The pass came to my backhand, so I had to lift it and, well... that was it," Michkov said of his lacrosse goal via translation from Uggg_uggg on X. "To be honest, if the situation lets me lift the puck, I'll give it a shot in practice every now and then. I've tried it in games, too, but no luck in the NHL so far. I believe it's still ahead of me, God willing, I'll keep trying."

Now that the Match of the Year is in tow, the Flyers anticipate Michkov returning sometime early next month, which gives him about a week or two to rest, prepare for the long flight, and make the trip back.
