One of the Philadelphia Flyers' top prospects is having his season cut short.
Thursday evening, the Flyers announced defenseman Egor Zamula, currently playing for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, will miss the remainder of the AHL playoffs after undergoing surgery on his left shoulder on April 10.
He is expected to make a full recovery in time for training camp in September.
This is a noteworthy loss for the Phantoms, who are in the midst of a first-round playoff series against the Charlotte Checkers. The Phantoms won Game 1 by a score of 4-3 Tuesday night, powered by the stellar play of Tyson Foerster.
Zamula, 23, has had a strong season in Lehigh Valley, posting a goal and 19 total points in 44 games. He also appeared in 14 games for the Flyers, logging four assists in those outings.
Zamula is in the final year of his entry-level contract and can become a restricted free agent this summer. He is expected to compete for a full-time NHL roster spot this summer.
