The Philadelphia Flyers play against Metropolitan Division teams four times this week.
The Philadelphia Flyers once again find themselves in a division akin to "murderer's row". The New York Rangers, New Jersey Devils and Carolina Hurricanes are only three of the others teams in the Metropolitan Division with their sights set on a Stanley Cup.
Like most retooling teams, they want to be competitive without giving up futures. The week ahead of them will greatly impact the next step for the organization.
Call it dramatic, but the Flyers have four games this week - all against the Metro Division. Each game carries a four-point swing, two points they get that their opponent does not.
That's a 16 point week - eight potential points they add to their total, and eight points they prevent their rivals from getting.
They have one game against the Hurricanes and Devils before having a back-to-back Saturday and Sunday against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Five points separate second place (Hurricanes) and seventh place (Devils) in the division. With that in mind, gaining another eight points is huge.
Getting to the other side of this week 0-4 would be a tremendous waste of an opportunity.
But further proof that more trading away players for assets is required. It's time for the rubber to meet the road.
