Flyers vs Pittsburgh Penguins Predictions and Game Preview
The Philadelphia Flyers go toe-to-toe with the Penguins for the final time this year. The Philadelphia Flyers are entering into the second half of a back-to-back. The first game saw them lose to the New York Rangers by a 2-1 score. [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMTmvjv4yTc[/embed] It was an entertaining game, with the Flyers dominating the shot clock (40-24) and Matt Rempe leaving his mark on Nic Deslauriers in a fight. Rempe lost to Deslauriers, but he stood his ground admirably - in addition to scoring the game winning goal. Now the Flyers attention turns to the Pittsburgh Penguins. This will be the last time these two divisional rivals play each other this season. They are up 2-1 in the season series. The Flyers have made a roster move ahead of today's contest. Olle Lycksell was recalled from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Game Predictions - First Goal: Owen Tippet - Most Ice Time: Travis Sanheim (26 minutes) - Most Shots: Owen Tippet (6) - Most Hits: Nic Deslauriers (4) - Most Blocks: Travis Sanheim (3) - Final Score: 3-2 Flyers Game time will be at 3:30 PM Eastern Standard Time. Nic Deslauriers Throws Haymakers in Fight of the Year
The Philadelphia Flyers forward took part in arguably the best fight of the 2023-24 season. Nic Deslauriers might not be the biggest player on the Philadelphia Flyers - but he sure knows how to fight. In the first five minutes of their game against the New York Rangers there was a fight. Deslauriers went toe-to-toe with rookie Matt Rempe. The end result was surprisingly impressive. Despite his experience in the NHL, Deslauriers was at a height and weight disadvantage in this bout. He stands 6-foot-1 and 218 lbs (according to NHL.com) while his opponent was a towering 6-foot-7, 241 lbs. Rempe is only skating in his fourth NHL game and already has three fights (this one being his third). It looks like his addition will ramp up the intensity in this Metropolitan Division rivalry. Flyers Creatively Announce Upcoming Giveaway
The Philadelphia Flyers will be offering a fun giveaway for an upcoming game. The Philadelphia Flyers will have to wait until Wednesday for an opportunity to bounce back from their Stadium Series loss to the New Jersey Devils on Saturday. Luckily there will be ample practice time to help put the 6-3 loss in the rearview mirror. [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkcLY87GPcA[/embed] Including Wednesday the Flyers only have four games left for the month of February. They will play the Chicago Blackhawks, New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Tampa Bay Lightning to close out February. Earlier today, the Flyers X (Twitter) account posted a fun announcement about something some fans can expect to find come February 27th. Including John Tortorella in this announcement is a fun touch for fans of the Flyers and the NHL. According to the post on social media, the first 10,000 fans who arrive at the game will receive Gritty earmuffs. Each earpiece on the earmuffs will feature Gritty's head - in all it's glory. The Flyers arguably have the most entertaining mascot in the entire league, and this is a great way to lean into that notoriety.  Recent Flyers Stories John Tortorella Gives More Insight Into Flyers Trade Plans Buffalo Sabres Eyeing Feisty Flyers Forward Future Uncertain With Physical Flyers Defender Gritty Has Fun Moment With Rival Mascot Around the NHL Lightning Reportedly Linked to Senators Star Forward Oilers Fans Are Loving Connor McDavid's Latest Goal Celebration Celebrating diversity by looking back on Avalanche history

Former Flyers Defender Having Rough Season
The former Philadelphia Flyers defenseman appears to have lost favor with his new team. The Philadelphia Flyers are having one of the strangest seasons. They were pegged to be a bottom-feeder in the league by many insiders and pundits.  They are proving everyone wrong. [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kw722MGMQAw[/embed] With 64 points in 54 games they currently sit third in the Metropolitan Division. Only the Carolina Hurricanes and New York Rangers are ahead of them in the standings - with 65 and 71 points respectively. This wasn't supposed to happen to a team in the middle of a rebuild - but it's happening to the Flyers. It's a great problem to have for a team that is working hard to build a great team. Part of building a great team is knowing who to trade and who to keep. One of these moves appears to have paid off greatly, considering how one exiting player has been performing so far this season on their new team. Tony DeAngelo is having a rough time playing for the Hurricanes this season. For starters, he's playing the least amount of his entire career.  His career average time on ice is 19:08. This year he is averaging 14:12 a game. Over his last seven games his ice time has ranged from 13:47 to 3:53. He started the year playing every game. But in late November, he began seeing long stretches of games where he was a healthy scratch. He's had two runs of 10 games scratched in a row. He's only played 23 games this season. The Flyers look to be heading in the right direction - under new leadership in management, their coaching staff and the players. Former Flyers Forward Fighting Father Time
The Ottawa Senators center has continued doing well after leaving the Philadelphia Flyers. The Philadelphia Flyers are currently second in the Metropolitan Division and fourth in the Eastern Conference. They have a 25-16-6 record - giving them 56 points in 47 games played. What John Tortorella has done with this team is impressive. He's taken one of the youngest teams in the league - that's rebuilding - and has turned them into a playoff team. One player who is not part of the success is Claude Giroux - who is in his second season with the Ottawa Senators. The former Flyers captain saw his offensive production drop in his last couple years with the Flyers. The 36-year old center rebounded last season with great production. In 82 games he recorded 79 points - including a career high 35 goals. Giroux should be slowing down at this point in his career, but he's having none of that. While he's a touch behind the pace he set last year, he's still producing well this season. His 14 goals and 25 assists for 39 total points, have him on pace to finish the season with 76 points - three shy of last year's totals. At 36-years old, this is a huge accomplishment. To do so while the team is having a tumultuous season is equally impressive. The Senators are in last place in the Eastern Conference, two points behind the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Senators have gone through management changes and coaching changes, but still find themselves at the bottom. Giroux has displayed great leadership by focusing on the on-ice product and doing what he can to help his team win. With Giroux fighting Father Time like this, who knows when the end is in sight. From this vantage point, it shouldn't be any time soon. Flyers Star Has Got That Dog
Philadelphia Flyers' forward Owen Tippett was spotted wearing a dog mask after the game, but what does that mean? The Philadelphia Flyers keep on cruising through their opponents of late. They won against the St. Louis Blues last night 4-2 in commanding fashion. They out-shot the Blues (42-30), beat them in the faceoff dot (59.6% vs 40.4%) and played relatively mistake free hockey (only three giveaways). A huge part of the victory is owed to Owen Tippett - who scored the game winning goal. The most impressive thing about the goal is not the fact that he scored it, but how he scored it. What a highlight reel goal. He dekes around Justin Faulk and then backhands the puck past goalie Joel Hofer. That goal came at 14:27 of the third period. Here's a mind boggling stat: that impressive goal from Tippett was one of 10 shots from the forward. He finished the game with 16:25 of ice time. For his efforts Tippett was given the player of the game award from his teammates. Every team has this award, but every team picks something different to give their teammates. For the Flyers, it's a dog mask and a black chain. So the next time you hear someone say that a Flyers player "has got that dog" they may be speaking literally - at least in this sense. The Flyers next game will be at home on January 18 against the Dallas Stars. 2024 World Junior Championship Preview: USA vs Czechia
USA continues it's 2024 World Junior Championship tournament with a game against Team Czechia. Team USA has done well so far during the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship. They presently sit third in the tournament across both Group A and Group B teams.  USA defeated Norway 4-1 to kick off the tournament. Gavin Brindley scored two goals in that win. They followed that up with an 11-3 thumping of Switzerland yesterday. Philadelphia Flyers prospect Cutter Gauthier finished the game with four assists in 12:45 of ice time. He has five total points in the two games so far. Jimmy Snuggerud was the real hero of the game. He notched a hat trick, an assist, and seven shots in 13:07. USA Can't Take Czechia For Granted Czechia has been up and down with one loss and one win. They lost 6-2 to Slovakia and defeated Norway 8-1 the next day.  Buffalo Sabres prospect Jiri Kulich leads the way for Czechia with three goals and two assists for five total points. He has done quite well in the AHL this year producing at nearly a point per game pace. He has 16 goals and six assists for 22 points in 23 games. His great play earned him a call up to the NHL in late November. He played 14:53 and fired off one shot on net in a November 25th game against the New Jersey Devils. Today's game begins at 11 AM Eastern Standard Time. 2024 World Junior Championship: USA vs Switzerland Lineups & Preview
Here are the lineups and a quick preview of the USA vs Switzerland matchup at the World Junior Championship. Team USA will play their second game of the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship today against Switzerland. It is one of only two games scheduled for today with Germany vs Sweden being the other game. USA has a stacked team and is considered a favorite to win the competition. They can take another step toward that today with a win against Switzerland. Switzerland opened their tournament yesterday with a 3-0 loss to Slovakia. Gavin Brindley scored two goals - including the game winner - in their 4-1 win against Norway. Team Switzerland Lineup Forwards - Leo Braillard - Rico Gredig - Timo Jenni - Endo Meier - Simon Meier - Miles Muller - Jamiro Reber - Mattheo Reinhard - Julien Rod - Thierry Schild - Jonas Taibel - Matteo Wagner - Gregory Weber Defense - Timo Bunzil - Gael Christe - Rodwin Dionicio - Louis Fullemann - Leon Muggli - Simone Terraneo - Daniil Ustinkov Goalies - Alessio Beglieri - Lorin Gruter - Ewan Huet Only one player on the Switzerland team is already drafted by an NHL team. Flyers vs League Leading Canucks: Game Predictions & Preview
A look at the Philadelphia Flyers first game against the Vancouver Canucks this season. The Philadelphia Flyers look to add another win onto their 18-11-4 record against the 23-9-3 Vancouver Canucks. This is the first game of the Flyers West Coast road trip. The Canucks sit on top of the league with 49 points in 35 games. The Flyers have nine less points in three less games. Keys to the Game This game is a tale of opposites. The Canucks have a great power play and subpar penalty kill - the Flyers have a top penalty kill and lackluster power play. Special teams will be a huge factor, perhaps more-so because of this. Miraculously (for them) the Canucks are first in the league for goals scored per game and second in goals against per game. The high-powered Canucks offense will be a tough test for the hard-working Flyers squad. Game Predictions  - First Goal: Sean Couturier  - Most Ice Time: Quinn Hughes (27 minutes) - Most Shots: Owen Tippett (5) - Most Hits: Garnet Hathaway (5) - Final Score: 2-1 Canucks (Overtime) Game time will be 10 PM Eastern Standard Time Thursday night. Flyers Forward Lines With Dream Addition
If the Philadelphia Flyers were to acquire Johnny Gaudreau, here's how the forward lines could shake out. Two weekends ago there was talk that the Columbus Blue Jackets are willing to listen to trade offers on "just about everyone". Some Philadelphia Flyers fans got giddy at the thought of acquiring forward Johnny Gaudreau. Before Gaudreau signed with the Blue Jackets there was talk that he wanted to sign close to home. Given the proximity of Salem County to Philadelphia, it seemed like the Flyers were on the shortlist. Regardless of what could have happened then, does bringing Gaudreau make sense for the Flyers? If the answer is yes, where would he fit in? That's what I will explore in this piece. Johnny Gaudreau In, Bobby Brink Out The first question that needs to be answered is which player would get pulled out of the lineup to sit in the press box? Obviously when you have a player of Gaudreau's calibre enter your organization the first instinct is not to scratch that player. The Flyers have a few rookies who are potential candidates to be replaced with Gaudreau. Tyson Foerster and Bobby Brink are both young players with less than 80 games of NHL experience. Given Foerster's deployment on the top line, he is less likely to be scratched than Brink. Both players have been played in offensive roles and play in the team's top six. A few other potential scratches could be Nicolas Deslauriers or Joel Farabee. Deslauriers is a depth forward for the Flyers and could easily slide out in favor of more offensive punch being added. Farabee is also someone who hasn't always been in the good books of John Tortorella. Tortorella likes his role players, so upsetting his bottom six seems less likely than taking out a player similar to Gaudreau. In light of that, Brink feels like the most likely player to get taken out. Philadelphia Flyers Top Six & Power play Given Gaudreau's reputation as an offensively gifted player and playmaker, having him in the top six makes the most sense. If Brink is the player being removed then there are two realistic options for him. Option 1: Tippett - Frost - Gaudreau This deployment makes the most sense to start. Gaudreau replaces Brink and the chemistry that the top line has created isn't broken by adding a new player into the mix. Owen Tippett and Morgan Frost benefit from having a veteran player on their line who can mentor them. It's also beneficial for Gaudreau as his playmaking abilities can compliment Tippett's shooting mentality. Option 2: Gaudreau - Couturier - Konecny The second option would see Sean Couturier and Travis Konecny become the linemates of Gaudreau. Couturier would be the defensive backbone of this combination, which could give Konecny and Gaudreau more freedom. It also would afford Gaudreau some time to acclimate to Tortorella's systems and expectations - all the while playing with the team's two best players. Power Play Unit 1: Konecny - Couturier - Gaudreau - Ristolainen - Foerster Replacing Frost with Gaudreau allows Frost to move down to the second unit power play. It gives the opportunity for Couturier and Konecny to continue building chemistry with Gaudreau. It also puts him in the best situation to succeed. If the Flyers pick up a veteran like Gaudreau before the trade deadline, it would give the team a huge offensive boost. Likely resulting in him playing on one of the top two lines and top power play unit. 3 Reasons Why the Flyers Should Trade Hart
The Philadelphia Flyers have three main reasons to move on from goaltender Carter Hart. The Philadelphia Flyers are one of the most unique teams in the NHL right now. They sit in second place in the Metropolitan Division with 40 points. That also puts them tphird in the Eastern Conference. Conversely, the team is also in a rebuild. They are not a team that will contend for the Stanley Cup. These factors play in to any potential trade they make with other teams. One player they should seriously consider moving on from is Carter Hart. He's young, having a great season, but his next contract might not fit the Flyers and their plans for the next few years. Here are the three reasons why I would consider trading Hart if I was the Flyers. Hart is Still Young Hart is only 25-years old and has five years of NHL experience already. He's seen highs and lows already and has just entered his prime. With a few exceptions, goaltenders tend to see a drop off in statistical performance once they hit age 28. He will have value to many playoff teams. That will incentivize teams up give up more assets for him. He still has two-to-three seasons of prime goaltending years left. Will the Flyers be competing for a Stanley Cup then? Not likely. But a playoff team looking to add goaltending to their team should strongly consider adding a player like Hart to their team. Hart is in His Prime John Tortorella has made a massive impact on Hart's game. With the defense playing in a more structured way it allows Hart to anticipate plays better. He's been steadily improving since 2020-21, his career worst season. In 27 games he had 9-11-5 record to go along with a 3.67 goals against average (GAA) and a .877 save percentage (SV%). So far in 2023-24 he has a 9-6-2 record. He's collected a 2.62 GAA and a .913 SV%. If he can stay healthy for the rest of the season he has the runway to have a career best season. Hart's Next Contract Isn't Worth It For a Rebuilding Team Hart is in the final year of a three-year deal with a $3.979-million cap hit, after which he will become a restricted free agent (RFA). His base salary this season is actually $4.479-million, which will be his qualifying offer in the summer.  Is it in the Flyers best interest to re-sign Hart for almost $5-million a year? The Flyers have seven other expiring NHL contracts to take a look at in addition to Hart - with only $1.211-million in cap space right now. Decisions need to be made on the direction of the Flyers and if Hart is part of the plan. It might make more sense for the team to acquire a goalie who is between 20-23 years old. Then they would reach their prime in four to seven years, which would be more in line with the Flyers time table to be a consistent playoff team and potential Stanley Cup Contender. Flyers Will Play With More "Hart" Tonight
Samuel Ersson will get the night off for the Philadelphia Flyers. The Philadelphia Flyers had a nine game point streak broken last night. The Nashville Predators won by a 4-2 score in regulation. This was the first time in the month of December that the Flyers didn't earn at least one point in a game. Samuel Ersson has started five straight games. In those five games he's only allowed 11 goals against on 141 shots - that's good for a .922 save percentage (SV%). Carter Hart's availability has been up and down, largely due to fighting off an illness. That appears to be behind him, because he is the projected starting goalie for tonight's game. Ersson has filled in admirably during Hart's absence. Having the team's top goaltender back for tonight's game will hopefully give the team a welcomed boost. Hart last played on December 9th against the Colorado Avalanche. He stopped 36 of 38 shots in a 5-2 win. He has a 2.42 goals against average and a .919 SV% on the season. Tonight's game against the Detroit Red Wings will start at 7PM Eastern Standard Time. Morgan Frost Scores Luckiest Goal Ever
Morgan Frost scored a goal that's going to live on highlight reels for a long time. The Philadelphia Flyers nine game point streak has come to an end. Last night they lost to the Nashville Predators 4-2 in regulation. They came up short in their forechecking last night. The lack of getting pucks behind their defenders in deep cost them the game. One of the bright spots of the game, was Morgan Frost's goal 1:31 into the game. The early lead was a great way to start the game. The goal itself was something you don't see every day. Bobby Brink whacks the puck around the boards to the back of the net. While under pressure from a Predators defender Frost gets a skate on the puck. It sails over the net, hits the back of Juuse Saros and falls into the net. Here's another angle of the replay: What an incredibly fortuitous bounce for Frost and the Flyers here. Very likely that we don't see another goal like that again for a long time. Frost finished the night with the one goal on two shots in 15 minutes of ice time. He has nine points on the season (four goals & five assists) with 39 shots, 20 blocks and nine hits in 22 games. He's averaged 15:20 of ice time per game. The Flyers are back in action tonight against the Detroit Red Wings. Flyers Are Red Hot in December
The Philadelphia Flyers are 7-0-2 in their last nine games. The Philadelphia Flyers are on a tremendous streak for the month of December. They have opened the month with a 7-0-2 record, earning at least one point in every game they have played. This is a testament to their ability to commit to defense and work hard to earn offensive scoring chances. They have scored many goals off the rush while still having the fourth ranked penalty kill and averaging 2.61 goals against per game over the whole season  Their numbers over the month of December are even more impressive: Their penalty kill percentage and goals against per game really stand out here. In December they have an 89.3% kill rate. That's three percent better than their numbers on the entire season. Their goals against has decreased significantly - from 2.61 on the season to 2.11 in December alone. That's a 0.5 improvement. It's great to see the team becoming more comfortable and committed to the system John Tortorella wants them to play. Line Combinations vs Predators Tonight the Flyers play against the Nashville Predators. Here were the line combinations at this morning's practice. Samuel Ersson is your projected starting goalie. Carter Hart was at practice but does not seem well enough to play. Cal Petersen will be the backup tonight. Game time is 7 PM Eastern Standard Time. Flyers vs Nashville Predators Game Predictions & Keys to the Game
Philadelphia Flyers vs Nashville Predators Game Predictions and keys to the game. The Philadelphia Flyers go toe-to-toe with the Nashville Predators for the second and last time tonight at Wells Fargo Center. In the first meeting between the two teams the Predators won in overtime by a score of 3-2. The Flyers are on a current three game winning streak. There have been some health questions recently as several players have been in and out of the lineup battling illnesses. Most notably Carter Hart has been one of these players. There is a good chance that even if he isn't too sick to be scratched that Samuel Ersson will get the start regardless. There should be a clearer sense of what is happening closer to game time. Keys to the Game The most important thing for the Flyers long term success will be to consistently bring their hard work ethic to every game - tonight is no different. They are facing a high-powered offense with the Predators. They also have a world class goaltender in Juuse Saros who stops more pucks than your average bear. Last game they out-shot the Predators by a 39-22 margin. They will need to do the same tonight. However, they need to get more bodies in front of the net creating screens to make it harder for him to stop the puck. Ersson is on a nice run of late. He's played three straight games for the Flyers only allowing five goals on 89 shots over that span of time. That works out to a .943 save percentage. Every time he plays he settles down as the game progresses - the key for him will be to get locked in early. Game Predictions - First Goal: Owen Tippett - Most Ice Time: Travis Sanheim (26 minutes) - Most Shots: Roman Josi (5) - Most Hits: Garnet Hathaway (4) - Final Score: 3-1 Flyers Game time is at 7 PM Eastern Standard Time tonight. Philadelphia Flyers vs New Jersey Devils Predictions & Game Preview
Philadelphia Flyers & New Jersey Devils game preview and predictions for December 19th, 2023. The Philadelphia Flyers and their 17-10-3 record will be taking on the New Jersey Devils with their 16-12-1 performance in the young regular season. The Devils have already defeated the Flyers back on November 30th, by a 4-3 score. That was also the game that Garnet Hathaway levelled Luke Hughes - and he would come back and score the game winning goal in overtime. The Flyers are still second in the Metropolitan Division with 37 points. The Devils have 33 points and are a single point behind the Washington Capitals for the second Wild Card Position in the Eastern Conference. Keys to the Game The Devils will be a tough challenge for the young Flyers. They have a 7-1-2 record in their last ten games - presently on a two game winning streak. Their power play has become a tremendous weapon, presently ranked first in the entire NHL at 30.5%. They have several weapons on their team who can make you pay for any defensive miscues. Jesper Bratt and Jack Hughes are two players to keep your radar on. Bratt has seven points during that stretch while Hughes has contributed four goals. They will need all hands on deck to shut down this high flying team. Game Predictions - First Goal: Luke Hughes - Most Ice Time: Travis Sanheim (27 minutes) - Most Shots: Travis Konecny (6) - Most Hits: Rasmus Ristolainen (4) - Final Score: 2-1 Flyers The game starts at 7 PM Eastern Standard Time.
