The Flyers have a handful of game-time decisions and questionable roster moves to make heading into New Jersey
The Philadelphia Flyers pay visit to the New Jersey Devils tonight. The Devils (16-12-1) are 7-3-0 in their last 10 games. As for the Flyers, 16 points in their last 10 games while carrying some uncertainties into tonight's contest.
The Flyers practiced on Monday in Voorhees before taking a bus ride up to Newark, New Jersey. Travis Sanheim was at practice with the club for the first time since missing Saturday's game due to illness. He will be good to go in Jersey. Carter Hart has missed a handful of games already this season due to illness has been now marked as questionable.
However, for the second time in as many weeks, Sean Couturier was not at practice on Monday — John Tortorella chalked it up to be another maintenance day.
Following practice, Head coach John Tortorella said Sean Couturier would be good to go for Tuesday's game in Newark. Now may be cause for concern.
Multiple sources indicate the Flyers are expected to call up offseason signing Rhett Gardner on emergency basis. The 27-year-old center was brought in during free agency this past summer courtesy of the Dallas Stars organization.
Similar to what the Flyers did with Felix Sandström when Carter Hart was out, it looks like Cal Petersen will Rhett Gardner will be recalled to fill gaps in the lineup if the training staff rules Sean Couturier unable to play.
To make room on the roster, Olle Lycksell will report back to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, granting him the chance to continue his development in the minors rather than in the press box.
Rhett Gardner will switch roles with Olle Lycksell, slotting in as the 13th forward — allowing John Tortorella to play Gardner wherever and whenever he sees fit.
With no practice this morning, John Tortorella and Danny Briere will make game time decisions closer to puck drop at 7:00 p.m. EST. There is more information and updates to follow throughout the day.
