For a second straight game this former Philadelphia Flyers defender is sitting in the press box.

John Tortorella is no stranger to benching players who aren't performing to his standards. I'm sure many of us remember when he benched Kevin Hayes last year, despite Hayes being the team's leading scorer at the time.

    Kevin Hayes.

Sometimes it's poor play that leads to a healthy scratch. Other times it's simply having a lot of bodies and wanting to get some other players going.

For Tony DeAngelo in Carolina, the latter seems to be more of the case then the former.

On Wednesday DeAngelo was taken out of the lineup in favor of Jalen Chatfield.

The Hurricanes defeated the Edmonton Oilers 6-3 on Wednesday, so I understand the impulse to not change the lineup.

DeAngelo has averaged 16:11 of ice time over the course of 16 games. He has seven points in that time span.
