With free agency almost here, Penguins defenseman Ryan Shea is still without a contract. If he becomes a UFA on July 1, these two teams could look to sign him.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have multiple pending UFAs with the start of free agency almost here. Among them is defenseman Ryan Shea, who just had a breakout year during the 2025-26 season.

In 80 games with the Penguins this past season, Shea posted new career highs with six goals, 29 assists, and 35 points. Due to this, if he hits the free agent market, he is going to get a lot of interest as one of the top left-shot defenseman UFAs.

Due to this, let's look at three teams that could sign Shea if the Penguins can't get him to stick around.

New York Rangers

The Rangers would be a team to watch if Shea ends up testing free agency. The left side of their defense is in need of some serious help, and Shea could compete for a spot in their top four if signed because of it. Rangers bench boss Mike Sullivan also previously coached Shea when he was with the Penguins.

San Jose Sharks

The Sharks will be another team to keep an eye on if Shea does not re-sign with the Penguins. They have multiple pending UFA defensemen heading into July and will need to bring in some replacements if they walk. Shea could be a great fit on an exciting Shark team that is on the rise.
