Could the Penguins end up moving these players before the start of the season?

The Pittsburgh Penguins have made some notable changes to their roster this off-season. The possibility of the Penguins making more changes to their roster this summer should not be ruled out, as they are still in the middle of a retool.

Because of this, let's take a look at three potential Penguins trade candidates if they want to continue to shake up their roster.

Rickard Rakell

After being the subject of trade rumors last summer, questions about Rickard Rakell's future in Pittsburgh are continuing to come up this off-season. The 33-year-old forward could be a good trade chip for the Penguins if they want to get younger. This is because he is a proven top-six winger with a reasonable $5 million cap hit through 2027-28. In 60 games last season, he posted 24 goals and 48 points.

Bryan Rust

Like Rakell, Bryan Rust has also been talked about in the rumor mill for a while now. The Penguins trading the 34-year-old forward would be very notable, as he has spent all of his 12-year NHL career in Pittsburgh. However, when noting that Rust is entering his mid-30s, it could make sense if the Penguins looked to sell high on him. In 72 games last season, he recorded 29 goals and 65 points.

Tommy Novak

Tommy Novak is entering the final season of his contract in 2026-27. If the Penguins do not view him as a long-term part of their plans, it would make sense if they listened to offers for him this off-season. The 29-year-old could be a solid pickup for a team looking for a middle-six center. In 82 games last season, he had 16 goals and 42 points.
