Alex Nedeljkovic is set to get his first start as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
As expected on the second half of the first back-to-back set of the season, Alex Nedeljkovic will make his Pittsburgh Penguins debut against the Calgary Flames.
After Tristan Jarry started in goal for the Penguins home opener and against the Washington Capitlas, Nedeljkovic gets his first cuts of the year.
Nedeljkovic had a respectable preseason, playing the most games out of any goalie in the system.
The former All-Rookie goalie is looking for a bounce back to normalcy this season with the Penguins after penning a one-year deal.
In a pair of seasons with the Detroit Red Wings, Nedeljkovic largely struggled, at times finding himself in the AHL.
Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan spoke highly of the new backup in town ahead of his debut with the team.
“He’s just a real competitive guy,” Sullivan said. “I think he plays the puck extremely well.”
This will be Nedeljkovic’s first steps in gaining momentum and eventually becoming a starting goalie in the NHL again.
It likely won’t be with Pittsburgh, but the stepping stones are there.
“He brings a good energy to the rink,” Sullivan said. “That’s contagious. He’s developed a good relationship with Tristan. He’s a good goalie.”
The Penguins will look to ride the momentum picked up after taking a big win against the Capitals just 24 hours ago.
