The Pittsburgh Penguins are putting their faith in Tristan Jarry, and some believe it is a bet that will soon pay off.
Tristan Jarry struggled as the Pittsburgh Penguins starting goalie in 2022-23 as injuries and inconsistency held him from being his absolute best.
Entering this season, Jarry is fully healthy with a new five-year contract extension to keep him as the Penguins’ starting netminder.
While a new contract shows how much the team is counting on him, what kind of season can Jarry put together in 2023-24.
According to NHL Network’s Mike Rupp, he wouldn’t be surprised to see Jarry contend for the Vezina Trophy as the league’s best netminder.
With his new contract out of the way and the Penguins looking for a huge bounc back season as a group, Jarry is in a perfect position to put together a career year.
The Penguins are going to rely on him and a resurgence from backup goalie Alex Nedeljkovic to push them back into the postseason.
For Jarry, coasting near a 40-win season would go a long way in the team’s success; his career-high is only 34, but he should have ample opportunity to exceed expectations.
The Penguins didn’t get off to a great start, dropping their home opener 4-2 to the Chicago Blackhawks, but Jarry put together a solid start.
Jarry made 32 saves on 35 shots faced and looked confident in his crease.
There is a ton of season still to be played and the Penguins are going to rely heavily on their starting goalie as they hope to once again fight for the Stanley Cup.
