Will Michael Bunting find a new home soon?
The 2026-27 NHL regular-season kicks off on Tuesday.
While the NHL regular-season is just about to get started, there are some still notable free agents who have yet to be signed. One of them happens to be a former Pittsburgh Penguins forward: Michael Bunting.
Bunting had a down year by his standards in 2025-26, posting 14 goals, 33 points, and a minus-24 rating in 74 games split between the Nashville Predators and Dallas Stars. Yet, given his past success, it feels inevitable that he should get another opportunity in the NHL.
Just back during the 2024-25 season, Bunting recorded 19 goals and 38 points in 76 games split between the Penguins and Predators. This was after he had 19 goals and 55 points in 81 games split between the Carolina Hurricanes in Pittsburgh in 2023-24. These seasons were not very long ago, so it would not be surprising if another team took a chance on him as a bounce-back candidate.
With the regular-season just about here, it will be interesting to see if Bunting can land a contract from an NHL club soon.
In 79 games over two seasons as a Penguin, Bunting posted 20 goals and 48 points.
