A former Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman is heading to another Metropolitan Division team.
The Carolina Hurricanes have announced that they have signed defenseman Pierre-Olivier Joseph to a one-year, $850,000 contract for the 2026-27 season.
Joseph signing with the Hurricanes comes after he spent the 2025-26 season with the Vancouver Canucks. In 31 games with Vancouver last season, the former Penguins defenseman posted one goal, six points, 18 hits, and a minus-16 rating.
Joseph will now likely serve as a depth defenseman for the Hurricanes. This is a low-risk move for Carolina, and it will be interesting to see how the former Penguins defenseman performs with the reigning Stanley Cup champions from here.
Joseph spent five seasons over two stints with the Penguins. In 171 games as a member of the Penguins, the 6-foot-2 defenseman recorded eight goals, 30 assists, 38 points, 88 penalty minutes, 114 blocks, and 186 hits.
Joseph's second stint with the Penguins ended after the 2024-25 season when he signed with the Canucks during the 2025 NHL off-season.
