This former Penguins forward is still one of the NHL's top UFAs.
Most of this year's top UFAs have been signed now that we are just a few days away from the start of August. Although this is the case, there are still some interesting players available for the taking on the free agent market at this stage in the summer.
Among the best UFAs left is former Pittsburgh Penguins forward Michael Bunting.
It is surprising that Bunting has not been signed yet at this point in the off-season. The 30-year-old is a solid top-nine winger who contributes offensively and plays with an edge. With this, he would be a nice pickup for a team looking to boost its offense.
In 74 games last season split between the Nashville Predators and Dallas Stars, Bunting posted 14 goals and 33 points. This was after he had 19 goals and 38 points in 76 games split between the Penguins and Predators in 2024-25. He also recorded at least 49 points from 2021-22 to 2023-24.
With all of this, Bunting should be able to land a new contract in the near future. He would be a good player for a team to add on a short-term deal.
In 79 games over two seasons with the Penguins from 2023-24 to 2024-25, Bunting posted 20 goals and 48 points.
