This former Penguins forward has been waived by his new team.
Former Pittsburgh Penguins forward Alex Nylander is available for the taking, as he has been placed on waivers by the Calgary Flames.
Nylander being placed on waivers by the Flames comes just one day after he earned a one-year, two-way contract with Calgary through his professional tryout (PTO) agreement.
If Nylander passes through waivers unclaimed, the Flames will then be able to officially assign him to their AHL affiliate, the Calgary Wranglers.
Nylander spent all of last season in the AHL with the Toronto Marlies. In 65 games with the AHL club this past campaign, he posted 24 goals and 53 points.
Nylander last played at the NHL level during the 2024-25 season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he had zero points in five games.
Nylander spent two seasons with the Penguins from 2022-23 to 2023-24, where he posted one goal, one assist, and a plus-1 rating in 14 games. He spent most of his time with the Penguins organization in the AHL with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, where he posted 39 goals and 80 points in 99 games over two seasons.
