This former Penguins forward is one of the best UFAs still available for the taking.

Now that we are roughly the halfway point of August, most of this year's notable unrestricted free agents have been signed. However, there are still a few interesting UFAs who have not been signed at this point in the off-season.

Among the most surprising free agents left is former Pittsburgh Penguins forward Michael Bunting.

In what was a weak free agency class, Bunting already stood out as one of the top wingers available when free agency opened on July 1. Although this was the case, the 6-foot forward is still looking for his new home at this point in the summer.

Eventually, Bunting should be able to land with another NHL team, though. He has been a solid forward throughout his career and could be a good addition for a team that is looking for more offense and bite in their top nine.

With the Penguins having so many NHL-caliber forwards, they don't stand out as a likely fit for Bunting. However, there are multiple other teams that could make sense for Bunting to sign with before the season is here. Time will tell if he can land his next contract soon.

In 79 games over two seasons with the Penguins from 2023-24 to 2024-25, Bunting posted 20 goals, 28 assists, and 48 points.
