The Pittsburgh Penguins will take on the Dallas Stars without two of their regular faces.
PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins will be without a pair of usual suspects when they drop the puck against the Dallas Stars. Following their morning skate in Dallas, Penguins’ head coach Mike Sullivan confirmed that forward Jeff Carter and defenseman Ryan Graves have been ruled out.
This will be Carter's second consecutive game missed with an upper-body injury. Against the New Jersey Devils, the Penguins iced forward Jonathan Gruden on their fourth line. If lines from their most recent practice hold strong, Jesse Puljujarvi will return to the lineup against the Stars.
Puljujarvi has played in 11 games since signing a contract with the Penguins in early February, with just one goal. Puljujarvi has been out of the lineup for most of his time with the Penguins. Sullivan stated that he's been a healthy scratch rather than still dealing with repercussions from his offseason hip surgery.
Despite a rocky season, this will be Graves’ first absence of the year. Sullivan stated that Graves stayed in Pittsburgh awaiting the birth of his first child.
With an open roster spot, defenseman Jack St. Ivany will make his NHL debut. St. Ivany had previously been recalled but was healthy scratched for a pair of games. St. Ivany has stated a few times that he’s ready to go whenever called upon.
