Jesse Puljujarvi Working Through Rehab Process With Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins are still working on getting Jesse Puljujarvi up to speed.

Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby discusses former teammate and good friend Marc-Andre Fleury ahead of their Monday night matchup.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are nearing the end of their 10-day period where the team covers the expenses for Jesse Puljujarvi who is currently in the midst of a free agent tryout.

Ever since Puljujarvi joined the Penguins, however, he hasn’t skated much with what could be his new teammates.

According to head coach Mike Sullivan, that was to be expected as Puljujarvi is still recovering from a double hip surgery in the offseason.

“He has been working with our strength and conditioning guys,” Sullivan said. “He has not been on the ice the last little while. Obviously, he went through major surgery and is trying to work through that process, and we had anticipated that.”

Sullivan stated that there is going to still be a process to work through to get Puljujarvi up to game speed.

President and general manager Kyle Dubas believes Puljujarvi can be a great addition to the Penguins on both sides of the puck, just a matter of returning to health and fully recovering from the offseason surgery.

Initially, it didn’t seem as if Puljujarvi would need the full 10 days to get up to speed as he was skating with the Penguins right away but hasn’t seen much ice since.

The Penguins knew this could be a long process, however, and will likely make a full decision after the Christmas break.
