Heading into a few days off and riding another losing streak, the time may have come for changes within the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are in a bad spot as they enter a three-day break from games; four consecutive losses, only one goal in three straight, a lineup with numerous injuries, and a power play that hasn’t scored in a calendar month.
With an 11-12-3 record, things haven’t gone right at all for the Penguins and this might be the time new president and general manager Kyle Dubas steps in and forces changes.
Dubas stated that the two games in Florida may have huge implications on how he handles the team for the rest of the year.
-“That’s for me, as I continue to get to know and learn this group, the different things that I'm looking for that will be instructive to how we dictate the course of where we go in the second half of the year.”
That statement was made before the Penguins dropped the puck against the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers, and they ended up on the losing end of both challenges.
The Penguins laid an egg against the Lightning being held from the score sheet until the final minute; they were better against the Panthers, but still only managed one goal.
Dubas may be new to the organization, but he arrived with the same mindset that has been here since they drafted Sidney Crosby: find ways to win and compete for championships.
Through 26 games, the Penguins have found ways to lose and have continued to struggle.
This is the time for Dubas to put his foot down and enact some sort of change.
The Penguins still have ambitions of winning the Stanley Cup this season, for what it’s worth, they still have a chance if the right moves are made, and made quickly.
Crosby is 36, but having an outstanding year; Jake Guentzel is leading the team in the final year of his contract; the goaltending has been one of the few highlights.
Dubas is a great leader and isn’t afraid to make changes; these days off may bring some fascinating changes.
