The Penguins' decision to add this defenseman is starting to benefit them.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have made multiple moves this season. One of them was trading defenseman Brett Kulak to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for blueliner Samuel Girard and a 2028 second-round pick.
This was an interesting trade from the Penguins this season, and it is now starting to pay off for them. This is because Girard is starting to fit in nicely on the Penguins' blueline.
In 15 games for the Penguins since being acquired, Girard has five assists and a plus-3 rating. However, he has been seeing a surge in offense as of late for the Metropolitan Division club, as he has three assists over his last three games alone. This included him recording two assists in the Penguins' April 2 matchup against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Seeing Girard starting to make more of an impact for the Penguins is encouraging. There is no question that the 27-year-old defenseman is a very solid blueliner when playing at his best, and the Penguins will be hoping that he can keep his hot streak going from here.
In 55 games this season split between the Avalanche and Penguins, Girard has three goals, 14 assists, 17 points, and a plus-15 rating.
