Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby had four points against the Nashville Predators, his 41st career four-point game, moving him to 18th on the NHL's all-time list.

Despite their overall disappointing start to the season, there is one big reason to be somewhat optimistic looking ahead - and it starts with the big guys.

On Thursday night at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN, Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby had a goal and three assists in a 5-4 overtime win.

With four points, Crosby recorded his 41st game with four more points to move into 18th place all-time in NHL history.

Although no one will ever catch Wayne Gretzky's mark of 217 contests, the Penguins captain could become only the ninth player to compile 50 four-point games by passing some legendary Hall of Fame names on the way.

  1. Wayne Gretzky - 215 games
  2. Mario Lemieux - 123 games
  3. Phil Esposito - 70 games
  4. Marcel Dionne - 63 games
  5. Mike Bossy - 60 games
  6. Jaromir Jagr - 56 games
  7. Steve Yzerman - 55 games
  8. Peter Stastny - 54 games
  9. Bryan Trottier - 49 games
  10. Jari Kurri - 47 games
  11. Dale Hawerchuk - 45 games
  12. Paul Coffey - 45 games
  13. Ron Francis - 44 games
  14. Brett Hull - 43 games
  15. Mark Messier - 42 games
  16. Gilbert Perreault - 42 games
  17. Bobby Orr - 42 games
  18. Sidney Crosby - 41 games
  19. Adam Oates - 41 games

Moreover, Crosby regained the lead among active players with four-point games, breaking a tie with Connor McDavid. Here's a breakdown of active players with four-point nights:

  1. Sidney Crosby - 41 games
  2. Connor McDavid - 40 games
  3. Nikita Kucherov - 31 games
  4. Evgeni Malkin - 30 games
  5. Nathan MacKinnon - 27 games
  6. Leon Draisaitl - 27 games
  7. Mikki Rantanen - 23 games
  8. Artemi Panarin - 23 games
  9. Matthew Tkachuk - 19 games
  10. Jonathan Huberdeau - 16 games

Crosby remains Pittsburgh's top scorer with 35 points in 34 games, bumping his points-per-game average to 1.02. If he can maintain this pace over the final 48 games, he'll break Gretzky's record for most consecutive seasons with a point-per-game average.
