Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby was among the first selections announced for Team Canada regarding their roster for the upcoming 4 Nations Face-off in February.
Crosby, at 37, will be the oldest player at the event, edging out fellow Nova Scotian Brad Marchand, 36, who is the captain of the Boston Bruins.
The pair will be joined by Nathan MacKinnon, the reigning NHL MVP, who is 29. Thus, the lineup will feature a trio of Nova Scotia-born players.
They have won five Stanley Cup titles, over 3,500 points, and numerous awards and international medals.
Interestingly, Crosby and Marchand will account for two of the three players at the 4 Nations Face-off born in the 1980s, with Sweden's Gustav Nyquist (1989) the only other selection.
For comparison, the four rosters include nine players born in the 2000s, with Leo Carlsson (2004) set to be the youngest. When Crosby made his NHL debut on Oct. 5, 2005, Carlsson was just 284 days old.
With one of the most distinguished resumes in NHL history, Crosby is the leading candidate to be named captain of Team Canada, an honor everyone knows he won't take lightly.
As the reigning MVP of the most recent World Cup (2016), the Penguins captain will only look to add to a resume worthy of both the International and Hockey Hall of Fames.
