The Penguins should consider taking a chance on this UFA forward.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have made a good number of moves this summer, but they should consider making more before the start of the season. They would benefit by adding to their forward depth.
When looking at the unrestricted free agents (UFAs) still available, one player who could be worth taking a chance on is forward Philipp Kurashev.
Kurashev spent last season with the San Jose Sharks, where he recorded seven goals and 20 points in 43 games. It was a step in the right direction for the 26-year-old forward, as he had just seven goals and seven assists in 51 games for the Chicago Blackhawks during the 2024-25 season.
Yet, when looking at Kurashev's past success, he could be a player worth signing to a one-year deal or even a professional tryout (PTO) for the Penguins.
During the 2023-24 season, Kurashev showed that he has the potential to provide solid offensive production. In 75 games that campaign with Chicago, he posted career highs with 18 goals, 36 assists, and 54 points. Those are strong numbers, and it is fair to wonder if he could give Pittsburgh more secondary offensive production if signed.
The Penguins have done a good job at helping players succeed over the last few seasons. Perhaps they could do the same with a player who has had past success and who is on the right side of 30, like Kurashev.
