The Pittsburgh Penguins are currently second in the Metropolitan Division standings, which is very impressive when noting that they had many doubters heading into the campaign. However, they instead have a real chance of making the playoffs this spring.
One of the many reasons why the Penguins are having such a good year has been the play of Anthony Mantha. After signing a one-year, prove-it deal with the Penguins this offseason, Mantha has been simply excellent for Pittsburgh this season. In 70 games this season, Mantha has set new career highs with 26 goals, 27 assists, and 53 points.
With how well Mantha has been playing this season, the Penguins have a clear move to make with him next. The Penguins must work hard to sign him to a contract extension.
Mantha has been a perfect fit in the Penguins' top six, so it would not be surprising in the slightest if they aimed to extend him. The 31-year-old winger has given the Penguins' roster a significant boost this season, so it would make sense if they looked to lock him up on a multi-year deal.
It will be interesting to see what happens between the Penguins and Mantha from here. Given how well he has played this season, he should be getting a nice raise.
