The Penguins have a clear move to make with this forward.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are currently third in the Metropolitan Division standings with a 36-20-16 record. When noting that many hockey fans expected them to be among the worst teams in the NHL this campaign, there is no question that they have been a nice surprise in 2025-26.

One of the many reasons why the Penguins have had such a solid 2025-26 season has been how well their bottom six has played. This has certainly been the case with forward Connor Dewar.

Dewar has had a breakout year with the Penguins, as he has set new career highs with 14 goals, 13 assists, 27 points, and 142 hits. With numbers like these, he has provided the Penguins' bottom six with not only good secondary offensive production but also plenty of grit.

With how well Dewar has played this season with the Penguins, they should work hard to sign the pending unrestricted free agent (UFA) to a contract extension. He is exactly the kind of player who they should be keeping around as they continue their retool. This is especially so when noting that he is still only 26 years old.

Dewar is due for a nice raise from his current $1.1 million cap hit, and the Penguins would be wise to be the team that gives it to him. It will be interesting to see if Pittsburgh ends up locking him to a contract extension from here.
