The Penguins have a free-agent target to consider in Eeli Tolvanen.
The Pittsburgh Penguins should be looking to strengthen their forward depth during this off-season. One way that they could look to do this is through the free-agent market.
When looking at this year's pending unrestricted free agents (UFA), one player who the Penguins should consider targeting if he hits the market is Seattle Kraken winger Eeli Tolvanen.
If the Penguins signed Tolvanen, he would have the potential to be a strong addition to the Penguins' top nine and power play. Furthermore, due to his strong defensive play, he would give the Penguins another clear option for their penalty kill to consider.
In 78 games this season with the Kraken, Tolvanen had 12 goals, 24 assists, 36 points, and 187 hits. This is after he scored a career-high 23 goals in 2024-25 and recorded a career-high 41 points in 2023-24. He also had over 200 hits in 2023-24 and 2024-25. With this, he would give the Penguins a hard-nosed forward who provides solid secondary offensive production if signed.
Tolvanen's age also adds to his appeal, as he is only 27 years old. With this, he is right in his prime and could be a strong fit on a Penguins club that is focused on both the present and the future.
