Last month, the Pittsburgh Penguins signed forward Blake Lizotte to a three-year, $6.75 million contract extension. Starting next season, the 28-year-old center will have a $2.25 million cap hit for the Penguins.
When looking at how well Lizotte has played for the Penguins this season, there is no question that the Penguins have made the right call keeping him around.
Lizotte has been a key part of the Penguins' bottom six since joining the team in 2024-25. In 46 games so far this season with Pittsburgh, the 5-foot-9 forward has recorded six goals, 11 assists, 17 points, 41 hits, and a plus-10 rating. With this, he has provided the Penguins with decent secondary offensive production. He also has a faceoff winning percentage of 51.7, so he has been impactful at the dot as well.
Lizotte is also an important part of the Penguins' penalty kill, so he undoubtedly provides plenty of value. With all of this, there is no question that the Penguins were wise to extend him. This is especially so when noting that they got him to stick around at a reasonable price.
Lizotte has proven to be a strong fit on the Penguins' roster, and it will be fascinating to see what he does from here with the Metropolitan Division club.
