The Penguins' decision to acquire Nick Robertson from the Maple Leafs has the potential to benefit them.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have shaken up their roster a bit this off-season. They have moved on from a few players but have also made some additions as they look to take another step forward in 2026-27.

One of the Penguins' newcomers is forward Nick Robertson. The Penguins acquired him from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a 2028 fourth-round pick. With this move, the Penguins are taking a chance on a young forward with a good amount of skill.

Robertson appeared in 78 games last season for the Maple Leafs, where he set career highs with 16 goals, 16 assists, and 32 points. These are solid offensive totals, and he should be a solid pickup for the Penguins' top nine because of it.

Yet, with Robertson being just 24 years old, the potential of him hitting a new level with the Penguins should not be ruled out. The 2019 second-round pick had trouble breaking out with the Maple Leafs, and it was clear that he needed a fresh start for a while. Now, after getting one with the Penguins, it will be interesting to see if he can tap into his potential more and cement himself as a top-six forward.

However, even if Robertson does not hit a new level in Pittsburgh, he still should be a solid addition to Pittsburgh's roster. This is especially so when noting that they only gave up a fourth-round pick to get him. With that, this is a classic low-risk, high-reward trade for Pittsburgh and one that is hard to complain about.
