The Penguins should try to land Shane Wright from the Kraken.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have brought in multiple new players this off-season. While this is the case, they should not be afraid to make more moves before the 2026-27 season begins.
One way that the Penguins could look to boost their roster is through the trade market. When looking at the current trade candidates in the NHL, Seattle Kraken forward Shane Wright stands out as an interesting option for Pittsburgh to consider.
According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, Wright's agent, Kurt Overhardt, said that Kraken general manager Jason Botterill has "agreed to move" Wright to a different club this off-season. With this, the Penguins would be very wise to kick tires on the young center.
The Penguins could use another young skilled center on their roster, especially with Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin being in their late-30s. Due to this, it would make a lot of sense if Pittsburgh made a run for a young player like Wright.
Wright has had trouble breaking out with the Kraken, but it is clear that the 22-year-old still has good upside. His best season with Seattle came in 2024-25, when he posted 19 goals, 25 assists, and 44 points in 79 games. However, his offensive totals dropped last season, as he recorded 12 goals and 27 points in 74 games.
Yet, when noting that Wright has already shown good offensive promise and is still in his early 20s, he certainly still has the potential to break out and become a top-six forward. Perhaps joining a retooling team like the Penguins could help him do just that.
