Penguins Promote Top Goalie Prospect To AHL

One of the Pittsburgh Penguins top goalie prospects was promoted to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Monday afternoon.

With the Penguins looking to the future - and the trade deadline looming - the Penguins have some options at the forward position.

On Monday afternoon as the Pittsburgh Penguins prepare for their contest against the Los Angeles Kings, back in Pennsylvania, the organization was busy with a significant promotion to announce.

Top goalie prospect Sergei Murashov, who had spent most of the 2024-25 season with the Wheeling Nailers in the ECHL, is headed back to the AHL, where he played two games early in the campaign.

With the Nailers, Murashov earned a 15-3-1 record with a .919 SV% and 2.41 GAA with only 48 goals against.

Meanwhile, he's 2-0-0 in the AHL with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, picking up two victories on Oct. 13 and Nov. 30 before being reassigned to the ECHL.

This year marks Murashov's first season in North America, having played in his native Russia taking the MHL by storm. In 2023-24, he had a 24-4-2 record in 37 games with a .930 SV% and 2.03 GAA with Loko Yaroslavl. He briefly played in the KHL, appearing in six games with a 3-1-2 record.

The Penguins drafted Marushov, who is 20, in the fourth round (118th overall) at the 2022 Draft. He is considered the goalie of the future, along with Joel Blomqvist and Filip Larsson.
