The Pittsburgh Penguins set a cool NHL record on Wednesday night.

The Pittsburgh Penguins absolutely crushed the Philadelphia Flyers 7-0 in their first game of the 2026-27 NHL season on Wednesday night.

They were the better team from the opening drop of the puck and never let up.

It was a historic win, as according to OptaStats on X, it's the largest road shutout in a season opener in NHL history.

Wednesday's game also matched the Penguins' largest margin of victory against the Flyers. Per Bob Grove, the only other time they beat them 7-0 was in 1988.

14 of the Penguins' 18 skates registered at least one point in Wednesday's victory. Goaltender Arturs Silovs also recorded a shutout in his season debut for a second-straight season. He made the saves he needed to make and looked very calm in the crease.

It was everything the Penguins wanted in their first game of the year, and they'll try to keep the good vibes rolling when the Montreal Canadiens come to Pittsburgh for the home opener on Saturday.

Puck drop for that contest will be at 7 p.m. ET.
