Pittsburgh Penguins backup goalie Alex Nedeljkovic potted a goal during his rehab assignment with the WBS Penguins.
Alex Nedeljkovic is currently listed on the Pittsburgh Penguins long-term injured reserve, but that didn’t stop him from producing on the ice.
As part of his rehabilitation process from a lower-body injury, the Penguins sent Nedeljkovic to the AHL for a brief conditioning stint.
In his first contest with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, Nedeljkovic not only notched a win, but decided to chip in on offense.
With a little over a minute remaining against the Providence Bruins, Nedeljkovic took a chance at the opposing empty net and nailed it.
The shot hit just about dead center of the net and gave Nedeljkovic his second career AHL goal.
Nedeljkovic is also the first goalie to ever score two goals in the American Hockey League; his first one came in 2018 with the Charlotte Checkers.
It easy to say that Nedeljkovic made the most of his single game rehab stint in the AHL.
Up to the point of his goal, Nedeljkovic made 16 saves on 18 shots and eventually secured the 4-2 win; each of the game’s goal happened in the third period.
When Nedeljkovic returns to the Penguins lineup, they will have two goalies who have recorded goals at the AHL level.
Tristan Jarry scored a goal during his time with the WBS Penguins, also in 2018.
Nedeljkovic can return to the NHL roster as soon as Sunday against the Vegas Golden Knights.
