PITTSBURGH – For the past two seasons, Amanda Kessel has worked various roles within the Pittsburgh Penguins front office. During the 2023-24 season, Kessel was promoted to special assistant to the president and general manager as she worked her way up the front office ladder.

Before joining the Penguins, Kessel was one of the most successful names in women’s hockey. With over 15 years of international experience with Team USA, Kessel has over 10 medals, including a gold in the 2018 Winter Olympics.

While her next steps with the Penguins are uncertain, she hopes to one day become a general manager in the NHL. Before she continues that journey, her days of playing hockey might not be over.

According to Ian Kennedy of The Hockey News, multiple sources have stated Kessel is declaring for the 2024 PWHL Draft. The Professional Women’s Hockey League are soon to wrap up their first season of action and has seen great success.

With the league's popularity growing, Kessel is one of a few big names to enter the draft ahead of its second season.

“Kessel will join an already star-studded group of forwards entering the draft,” Kennedy writes. “Including Sarah Fillier, Danielle Serdachny, Hannah Bilka, Noora Tulus, Julia Gosling, and Abby Boreen.”

In her role with the Penguins, Kessel spent a lot of time around the team as well as president and GM Kyle Dubas. At this moment, Kessel’s name is still listed on the Penguins’ website.
