Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan will get another chance to represent Team USA.
PITTSBURGH – Over the course of his coaching career, Mike Sullivan has led the Pittsburgh Penguins to great success. Sullivan will have a chance to represent his native country as USA Hockey has announced he will be their head coach at multiple upcoming international tournaments.
With NHL representation back at international play, Sullivan will lead Team USA at the upcoming Four Nations Face-Off in 2025 and the 2026 Olympic Games. Sullivan was slated to coach Team USA at the 2022 Olympics but could not do so due to the lack of NHL participation.
Former Penguins player and front office executive Bill Guerin made the decision as Team USA’s general manager for those upcoming tournaments.
“We’re excited to have Mike guiding our teams,” Guerin said. “He is one of the very best coaches in the game and his background, including with international hockey, is well-suited to help put our team in the best position to win.”
Sullivan has a career coaching record of 445-275-15-100 in 835 games. During his nine years with the Penguins, he has appeared in 82 playoff games with a 44-38 record and Stanley Cup victories in 2016 and 2017.
Sullivan has led Team USA as their head coach on multiple occasions, most recently as their bench boss for the World Cup of Hockey in 2016.
“I am beyond grateful to have the opportunity to coach Team USA in these two significant international events,” Sullivan said. “It’s been amazing to see the progress we’ve made in hockey in our country over the course of my career."
