Penguins Could Send Jake Guentzel to Golden Knights

The Pittsburgh Penguins are likely to hear from a Stanley Cup favorite about their top trade piece.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are without top wingers Jake Guentzel and Bryan Rust as they begin a pivotal road trip.

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins continue to win hockey games, making the decision to deal Jake Guentzel before the trade deadline even tougher. Despite the winning, it seems likely the Penguins will trade away Guentzel.

Who will Guentzel land with, though, as almost every NHL team would love to take on his services? Earlier insiders noted that the Carolina Hurricanes would make a perfect fit, but a West Coast team will be involved until the end.

According to Elliotte Friedman on the Jeff Marek Show, the Vegas Golden Knights are one of the teams snooping around Guentzel and will remain in the conversation.

“I do believe they are one of the teams in and around Guentzel,” Friedman said. “They [Penguins] want guys who can help them now. And the one thing about Vegas… they have that kind of thing in their organization.”

The Penguins are looking for a haul in return, and the Golden Knights can provide that.

Marek brought up the Golden Knights as a team always looking to make a splash at the deadline. Almost every season of their existence, they’ve seemed to be involved with the top trade targets.

The Golden Knights aren’t one of the top teams in the league, but they are committed to making another run at the Stanley Cup.

“I find it hard to think that Vegas is not going to take a swing at the biggest player available,” Friedman said. “If it’s not him, it’s our job to figure out who else they might be interested in.”

The defending Cup champs are going for it, and Guentzel could be a massive asset in hunting for back-to-back championships.
